Medicaid and Doulas

We’re excited to share that Medicaid reimbursement for doula care is becoming more available across the country, and Cornerstone has been working to ensure that birthworkers who train with us can access this opportunity.

We’re now approved as a recognized training organization for doulas to apply as Medicaid providers in the following states:

🌟 Arizona 🌟 California 🌟 Connecticut 🌟 DC

🌟 Delaware 🌟 Florida 🌟 Illinois 🌟 Kansas 🌟 Maryland 🌟 Massachusetts 🌟 Michigan

🌟 Nevada 🌟 New York 🌟 Ohio

🌟 Pennsylvania 🌟 Rhode Island 🌟 Texas (for the Case Management benefit) 🌟 Kentucky

While this is a significant step toward improving access to doula care, we recognize that this process hasn’t been without challenges. Medicaid requirements and reimbursement rates vary from state to state, often creating frustrating barriers for birthworkers who are simply trying to care for their communities.

At Cornerstone, we’re committed to advocating for birthworkers to be valued for the essential care they provideβ€”without unnecessary gatekeeping. We believe that everyone deserves access to community-based care and that birthwork is a vital part of a just and equitable healthcare system.

With more states in process, we’re hopeful for continued progress. We’ll keep you updated as our list of approved states grows.

Thank you for being part of this movement. Together, we are building stronger, more connected communities and ensuring that the care provided by birthworkers is recognized, supported, and accessible to all.
